Nestled at the height of 2010 mts, Chaukori is located in the Pithoragarh District in Uttarakhand. This sleepy little town in the Kumaon region is surrounded by proud and mighty Himalayan peaks. Tibet is to the north, and Terai is to the south. The river Mahakali flows through the town.
Weather
Summer months are fun, some snowfall in winter. Yet Chaukori is mostly a treat for the senses. Expect up to 30 degrees in the fall, and reach between 5 to 10 degrees in the coldest winter months.
Best time to visit
It is always advisable to avoid the mountain season when visiting hills, especially if you are a beginner. The months of April–June and September–November are glorious and give your soul the perfect atmosphere. It is also a fair warning that forest fires can occur sometimes in summer months, which can make your route damper.

Nearest railhead is Kathgodam, which is situated at a distance of 193 Kms from Chaukori. There are two trains from Delhi to Kathgodam daily as this is a gateway for Kumaon region. Taxis/buses etc. are easily available from the railway station for Chaukori.
